Lord Brougham to Lushington, about Ashburton's prediction that he would be pleased with the result when they saw the papers, his own view that before the beginning of the legal term they should have worked out some plan for dealing with the slave trade because he believed that the Government were eager to adopt any recommendations they might make. He asks his views on a way of providing indemnity for those who had been engaged in slave trading up to a certain date while enforcing the penalties fully after that date by a Bill to prevent slave trading.
