Robert Drake to Anna Gurney, describing the embarkation of the Schöns for Africa, their leave-taking of their children, the delays experienced before they actually set sail and his hope to receive a letter from them when the pilot boat returned up the river. He also describes the behaviour of the children after their parents' departure when left in the care of himself and his wife, their grandparents.
