Memoir pp 195-98 1817 Jan 5. Hampstead. He describes a visit with Charles and Peter Bedford to Newgate where he had seen 44 boys, some under sentence of death, though not to be executed, and four others who would be in four days time. This had made him desire that his life should be devoted to checking crime. He asks her to pray that it might be dedicated to the honour of God and the happiness of man. He is sure his mission would not take him abroad but that it would nonetheless be a mission. He ends with an account of his day's activities, including a ride home from church with Rachel. ( p 64.)
