Visit to Sierra Leone B 15 pp 331-34 1833 June. Account of the capture of the slaver 'Donna Maria da Gloria' by the naval brig 'Snake' and the loss of life on board as a result of the return journey across the Atlantic from Rio de Janeiro to Sierra Leone for trial. There the slaves were held on board in the harbour of Freetown for two months after which it was decided that, being under Portuguese colours, her capture was illegal in the latitude at which she was taken and the slaves were once more carried back across the Atlantic.
