Rewritten as 'Les Martyrs', opera in 4 acts with libretto in French by Eugene Scribe, and first performed at the Paris Opéra on 10 April 1840. The original 3 act Italian version was first performed in Naples in 1848. First performed in London at Covent Garden in Italian as 'I Martiri' (re-translated by Calisto Bassi) in 1852. Excerpts only were given at Her Majesty's Theatre as part of gala or benefit performances in 1857 and 1858. A report made by A.
