This Is Sangedatsu Gate (Sanmon), the Middle Gate in the Temple Precincts. The Name (Lit. "Three Liberations") Is Said to Refer to the Buddhist Concept of Release from the Three Poisons (Greed, Anger, and Complaint), or to the Three Gates (Kuumon, Musoumon, Muganmon) in Paradise. It Is Said That the Gate Was Reconstructed in 1623. The Rickshaws Visible in Front of the Gate Started Service in Tokyo in 1870, and by the Following Year There Were 10, 000 Working the Streets.
