Lord Leighton Was an English Painter and Sculptor Who Began His Studies in Italy. He Became President of the Royal Academy in 1878, a Post He Held until His Death in 1896. Leighton Favoured Subjects Taken from Classical Mythology and History. His First Exhibited Picture Was 'Cimabue's Madonna Carried in Procession through the Streets of Florence', Purchased by Queen Victoria in 1855. This Woodburytype Is from 'Men of Mark', a Series of Books Featuring Prominent Men of the Time, Published between 1876 and 1883. A Brief Biographical Essay by Thompson Cooper Accompanies Each Portrait. The Woodburytype Was a Photomechanical Process Patented in 1864 by Walter Bentley Woodbury (1834-1885).
