A Photographic Portrait of John Everett Millais [1829-1896] Taken by Samuel Robert Lock (1822-1881) and George Carpe Whitfield. Best Known for His Painting 'Ophelia', Millais Founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848 with His Friends Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Millais Entered the Royal Academy Schools at Age 11, the Youngest Ever Pupil, and Exhibited There from Age 17. He Thrived at the Royal Academy, Becoming President in 1876. This Woodburytype Is from 'Men of Mark', a Series of Books Featuring Prominent Men of the Time, Published between 1876 and 1883. A Brief Biographical Essay by Thompson Cooper Accompanies Each Portrait. The Woodburytype Was a Photomechanical Process Patented in 1864 by Walter Bentley Woodbury (1834-1885).
