A Carte-De-Visite Portrait of British Painter John Everett Millais (1829-1896), Taken at the Studio of Samuel Poulton, London, in about 1863. Best Known for His Painting 'Ophelia', Millais Founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848 with His Friends Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Millais Entered the Royal Academy Schools at Age 11, the Youngest Ever Pupil, and Exhibited There from Age 17. He Thrived at the Royal Academy, Becoming President in 1876. A Carte-De-Visite Is a Photograph Mounted on a Piece of Card the Size of a Formal Visiting Card of the 1850s - Hence the Name. The Format Was Introduced by the French Photographer Andre-Adolphe-Eugene Disderi (1819-1889) in 1854. National Media Museum / Science & Society Picture Library.
