Lord Leighton Was an English Painter and Sculptor Who Began His Studies in Italy. He Became President of the Royal Academy in 1878, a Post He Held until His Death in 1896. Leighton Favoured Subjects Taken from Classical Mythology and History. His First Exhibited Picture Was 'Cimabue's Madonna Carried in Procession through the Streets of Florence', Purchased by Queen Victoria in 1855. This Photograph Appears in 'the Cabinet Portrait Gallery' Series of Celebrity Portraits and Biographies Published in the 1890s. The Series Includes Royalty, Actors, Academics and Authors.
