Christopher Latham Sholes (1819-1890) Was an American Newspaper Editor, Politician, and the Inventor of the First Commercially Successful Typewriter. With the Assistance of His Friend Carlos Glidden, Sholes Invented a Numbering Machine, Which Glidden Later Suggested Should Be Converted to a Lettering Machine. Approximately 30 Different Machines Were Built, the Keyboard Being Similar to Those in Use Today. The Invention Was Sold to the Company Remington and Son, and Their First Typewriter Was Sold in 1874.
