Resumo

'Near the above [figure of Buddha] there is a large four-armed figure sitting on the shoulders of another squatting figure. This figure is quite unique; this being the only specimen of the kind to be found in the district.' (descriptive notes by T.F. Peppé accompanying photographs, India pub. proc., 18 February 1871, IOR/P/505 p. 1640). Peppé was unable to identify the subject as Vishnu on Garuda. India Museum no. 1019. Another, similar but not identical view of this sculpture is reproduced as a lithograph in William Peppé's Rough notes on some antiquities in the Gaya District (Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal, vol. XXXV, pt. 1, 1866, pp. 49-59, pl. II): it is there identified as Stone figure at Genjun (but placed at Kispa in the text). Another copy at Photo 125/1(68). Photographer: Peppé, Thomas Fraser.
