Resumo

General view of the tombs of the Queens of Ahmad Shah. India Museum no. 1456. Received from Captain Lyon 7 February 1871. Duplicate print at Photo 1001 (3213). 565. - Leaving the Ranee Seepree mosque the visitor on continuing his way towards the city passing on his left the Dastur Khan, will in a short distance turn to the right and mounting a considerable flight of steps under a heavy porch will enter the Ranee Hazeera enclosure of which this Photo gives an excellent view. It is an open mausoleum as will be seen, the tombs on the right and extreme left being of white marble beautifully carved, while that in the centre is of black marble inlaid with mother of pearl. They are the resting places of different Queens and mistresses of Ahmad Shah. The Photographs will, it is to be feared, be soon all that is left of these beautiful monuments, the work of destruction can be only too well seen in the view to need any description. Photographer: Lyon, Edmund David.
