Resumo

Photograph of a sculpture slab of Ganesha, from Devikot in Bangladesh, taken by John Henry Ravenshaw in c.1871. In his 'Descriptive note of the photographs of ancient architectural remains in Kantonugger and Bannugger, Bengal public proceedings no. 26 of October 1871, Ravenshaw wrote 'This Gunesh was dug up in the vicinity of the tomb of Sultan Shah and the pools of Amrito and Jivot. It now forms an object of worship under a tree close to Gungarampore thannah. It is not the one referred to in page 625, Martin's India. The image there mentioned was a few years since destroyed by fire in the town of Dinagpore. It has been replaced by a duplicate made of mud; some small portions only of the original remain lying about.' Photographer: Ravenshaw, John Henry.
