Photograph of Mirza Jani Beg's Tomb at Thatta in Sind, Pakistan, taken by a photographer of the Archaeological Survey of India in the 1870s. This tomb is octagonal in plan and built of brick. Above the doorways are panels with Arabic inscriptions in white enamel against blue tiles. The exterior is embellished with alternate courses of glazed dark-blue and unglazed red bricks, and carved geometric tracery. On the west side there is a carved stone mihrab. The interior of the building is decorated with enamelled tiles. Mirza Jani Beg Tarkhan (d.1601) was ruler of Sind until he surrendered to the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1591. 17.8 x 22.3 Centimetres.
