Resumo
Photograph of buildings beside the tank at Sarkhej in Gujarat taken by Henry Cousens in the 1880s. This tank with a massive capacity was completed by Muzaffar II in 1514 and has a highly complex system for the control of its water-supply, including large, ornately carved circular sluice gates. This views shows the trabeate palace pavilions at the western side of the tank. The focal point of the Sarkhej complex is the 'dargah' or tomb of the famed saint and advisor to the Sultans of Gujarat, Shaikh Ahmad Khattu. His tomb was completed in the mid-fifteenth century and subsquently these palaces, royal tombs and a congregational mosque were also built on the site. The buildings include the tombs of Sultan Mahmud Begarha and the later tomb of Muzaffar Shah III's queen. Photographer: Cousens, Henry.
