Resumo
Photograph of the marble rocks on the Narmada from the 'Strachey Collection of Indian Views', taken by Samuel Bourne in 1865. The Narmada flows 800 miles west from the state of Madhya Pradesh to the Arabian Sea. The marble rocks at Bhedaghat, Jabalpur rise to a hundred feet on either side of the Narmada. The perpendicular magnesium limestone rocks fringe the crystal clear calm waters of the river:"the eye never weearies of the …effect produced by the broken and reflected sunlight, now glaring from a pinnacle of snow-white marble reared against the deep blue of the sky as from a point of silver…". Photographer: Bourne, Samuel.
