Resumo

A photograph of a view of the Tambraparni river in Tamilnadu from the 'Vibart Collection of Views in South India' taken by an unknown photographer about 1855. The Tambraparni River is famous for its several waterfalls, carrying water which allegedly has medicinal values. It rises in the Western Ghats and flows eastwards through the centre of the Tirunelveli district to the sea at Kolkai, a seaport known to the ancient Greeks for its export trade in pearls. As this is the driest region of the State, the river provides valuable irrigation for the alluvial valley. Photographer: Paston, Llewelyn.
