Photograph from the Curzon Collection taken by Watts and Skeen in the 1890s in Burma (Myanmar). View of the confluence of the Melika [now Malikha] and Hmika [Mehka] rivers in Kachin State, Burma's most northerly state. The confluence at Myit-son 27 km north of Myitkyina marks the beginning of Burma's great river, the Irrawaddy [Ayeyarwady], which flows south for 2000 km to a vast delta region along the Gulf of Martaban. The two rivers are its western and eastern tributaries and are in turn fed by a number of streams rising in the mountain ranges of northern Burma. Photographer: Watts and Skeen.
