Resumo
Photograph of a group of four girls seated at a low table hand-rolling cigars in Burma (Myanmar), taken by Watts and Skeen in the 1890s, part of the Curzon Collection: Album of Burmese Views presented to Lady Curzon by the Ladies of Moulmein. The girl on the right uses a pair of scissors to trim the cigar casing, made from bark or leaves taken from the tray on the ground in front of her. The cigars are filled with tobacco, shaped and rolled by the two girls in the middle, and finished by the girl on the left, who places them in the tray in front of her. Burmese women both produced and smoked cigars, made from tobacco cultivated in Burma's dry central plains. Photographer: Watts and Skeen.
