Resumo
Photograph of the Residency at Mount Abu in Rajasthan, taken by Lala Deen Dayal in the 1880s, from the Curzon Collection: 'Views of places proposed to be visited by Their Excellencies Lord & Lady Curzon during Autumn Tour 1902'. Lord Curzon served as Viceroy of India between 1899 and 1905. Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan and is situated on a plateau in the Aravalli Hills 1200 metres (4000 feet) above sea level. From 1840 Abu was used as a summer residence by the Political Superintendent of Sirohi and a sanatorium was subsequently built for invalid soldiers. From 1845 until 1947 it was the headquarters of the British Resident in Rajputana. To the north-east of the town is the Jain temple complex of Dilwara, a pilgrimage site built between the 11th and 15th centuries. This is a distant view of the Residency building on a rocky ridge, approached by a winding road. 20.2 x 28.5 Centimetres. Photographer: Deen Dayal, Lala.
