Resumo
Photograph of palace buildings in the Meherangarh Fort at Jodhpur in Rajasthan, taken by Lala Deen Dayal in the 1880s, from Curzon Collection: 'Views of places proposed to be visited by Their Excellencies Lord & Lady Curzon during Autumn Tour 1902'. The Meherangarh Fort, was built by Rao Jodha (r.1458-89) of the Rathor Rajputs after he founded the city of Jodhpur. It stands on an isolated outcrop of rock on the edge of the Thar Desert. Its high sheer walls and massive bastions dominate the city below and can be seen for miles around. Within the fort at the northern end are the Old Palaces, a series of apartments dating from the 17th century onward, arranged around irregularly shaped courtyards. Their facades are distinguished by the extensive use of jalis, perforated stone screens carved with intricate patterns. This is a close-up view of palace buildings, showing the filigree effect of the screens set against shallow balconies with curved bangaldar eaves. 20.9 x 29 Centimetres. Photographer: Deen Dayal, Lala.
