Resumo

Photograph from the Curzon Collection, of the Purana Mahal or Old Palace at Dig, Rajasthan, taken by the studio of Priyalall & Company in c.1900. The Purana Mahal is the oldest and largest palace in the complex at Dig, the beautiful 18th-century residence of the Jats of Bharatpur. It was built from 1722 onwards by Badan Singh (ruled 1722-33) and lies at the southern edge of the main formal garden and the Rup Sagar, one of two reservoirs. Its apartments were arranged around two inner courts or chowks. This view of one shows an arcade of cusped arches surmounted by a projecting balcony, with curved bangla domes crowning the roof. In the foreground is an ornamental pool or fountain. Photographer: Priyalall and Company.
