Resumo
Photograph of the River Hiran in the Gir Forest in Gujarat, taken in c.1900 by an unknown photographer, possibly the Solankee Studio, Rajkot. The Hiran is one of seven rivers that flow through the Gir Forest, near Junagadh. The forest is the natural habitat of the Asiatic lion and became a National Park in 1975. This view shows a stretch of the river with buffalo in the water, crossing from one side to the other. The photograph is from the Curzon Collection: 'Presented with feelings offriendship and sincere admiration to Lord Curzon of Kedleston, Viceroy and Governor-General of India, by H.H. Rasulkhanji, Navab Junagadha 1900.' Lord Curzon served as Viceroy of India between 1899 and 1905 and visited Junagadh in November 1900, where he stayed in a camp in the Gir near this scene at Sasan. Photographer: Solankee Studio.
