Nishio, Kyoko; 1844 - July 8, 1913. A Midwife. Born in 1844 in Iida-Cho, Tokyo as the Daughter of a Vassal of the Shogun. Widowed at 40, in 1884 She Obtained a Midwife's License from Tokyo Prefecture and Then from the Home Ministry. From Then on, for about 30 Years She Served as Vice-President and Secretary of the Tokyo Midwives Association. Her Achievements Included the Invention of Equipment to Help Premature Babies.
