Resumo
An albumen print taken by Richard Banner Oakeley showing the figure of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, at Halebid in Karnataka. Halebid is a temple site with the remains of architecture dating from the Hoysala period (1100-1350 AD) in the southern Deccan. The most important monument here is the Hoysaleswara temple, begun in ca. 1121, which is decorated with a wealth of sculpture carved from chlorite. The figure of Lakshmi standing on a lotus shows the detail with which the Hoysalan sculptor embellished the stone forms. Photographer: Oakeley, Richard Banner.
