Photograph of pupils and teachers of the Convent School at Pune (Poona) in Maharashtra from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections: India Office Series (Volume 46), taken by an unknown photographer in c. 1873. This image of pupils and teachers gathered in the courtyard in front of the school was probably shown at the Vienna Exhibition of 1873. Many convent schools in India were set up by missionaries during the ninteenth century. One of those in the Pune area was St. Joseph's which was run by the nuns of Jesus and Mary. 17.7 x 23.3 Centimetres. Photographer: Unknown.
