Photograph of sawyers in Jammu and Kashmir, taken by an unknown photographer in the 1890s. This image shows a team of sawyers at work with double-handed saws. Wood has been a traditional building material in the region for nearly a thousand years and many houses and shrines are richly carved with decoration.
