This photograph of the Sundareswarar temple at Kamarasavalli near Ariyalur (Tiruchirappalli) was taken by Alexander Rea c. 1892 and is part of the Archaeological Survey of India Collections. The Kalyanotsavam or marriage festival was celebrated in the Kalyana Mandapam, or 'Marriage Hall', a columned hall preceding the sanctuary in temple architecture used for ceremonies involving the symbolic marriage of the temple's divinity to his consort.
