Photograph of a group of sculpture slabs photographed against a wall at Bodh Gaya, from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections, taken by Henry Baily Wade Garrick in 1880-81. The caption identifies: "2 Adityas, 2 Shiva and Parvatis, 2 Ganeshas, 1 Vishnu, 1 female statue of uncertain meaning and fragments of 3 other statues." Garrick wrote: "During my brief stay in this famous site of Buddhistical antiquities, the greater part of my time was taken up in photographing a number of most interesting sculptures." Bodh Gaya is one of the holy sites related to the life of Buddha as it is the place where he attained Enlightenment. The original shrine is believed to have been raised by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BC and the present Mahabodhi temple dates from the 7th Century, late Gupta period.
