Photograph of the tomb of Mubarak Sayyid at Delhi from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections, taken in the 1880s and attributed to Henry Hardy Cole (the attribution is probably incorrect). The Sayyid sultans ruled over Delhi in a short-lived period between 1414 and 1445. Tombs are the most significant architectural monuments of both the Lodi and Sayyid periods and are either square or octagonal, a form reserved for royalty, with large central domes. There are two octagonal Sayyid tombs, one dedicated to Muhammad Shah IV (r.1435-1444) and the other to Muizz-ud-Din Mubarak Shah II (r.1421-1434). This is a general view of Mubarak Sayyid's tomb (c.1435). The building has an octagonal pillared verandah surrounding the central chamber with a large central dome surrounded by smaller chhatris.
