Resumo
Photograph of Safdarjang's tomb, Delhi from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections taken by W. Caney in the 1870s. Abul Mansar Khan, known as Safdarjang, was appointed as the Nawab of Awadh (r.1739-54) by Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah (r.1719-48) and later raised to the post of Wazir by Ahmad Shah (r.1748-54). The tomb was built by his son Shujauddaulah in 1753-1754 and is one of the last examples of a Mughal garden tomb complex based on the model of Humayun's tomb. The basic architectural style included a square plan tomb centered in a char bagh garden complex. The tomb was built of marble and red sandstone which was removed from the Abdur Rahim Khan-i-Khanna's tomb. Photographer: Caney, W.
