Resumo
View of a private house in Ambala, Haryana, taken by Samuel Bourne in the 1860s. Ambala was situated on the route from Delhi to Shimla in northern India. In the 1880s there was a huge cantonment here covering over 78 square km (48 square miles), constructed from 1843 onwards in a classic example of colonial grid planning. Paget Park and the Maidan provided open spaces. The British built St. Paul's Church and a cemetery here. Photographer: Bourne, Samuel.
