View of the Sukh Niwas Palace on the edge of the Jait Sagar tank at Bundi, Rajasthan by Gunpatrao Abajee Kale, c.1900. The photograph is from an album of views of Bundi formerly in the collection of Horatio Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener of Khartoum and Broome, (1850-1916), who was Commander in Chief of India between 1902 and 1909. Built by Maharao Raja Vishnu Singh in 1773, the Palace has a beautiful garden. It was used as a summer palace by the Maharajas of Bundi State and was the scene of festival processions. Rudyard Kipling stayed in the Sukh Niwas Palace and got inspiration for his book 'Kim' during his stay. 23.1 x 28.5 Centimetres. Photographer: Kale, Gunpatrao Abajee.
