Resumo

This view was taken in 1894 by an unknown photographer on the occasion of the installation of His Highness Shahu Chhatrapati (1875-1922), the Maharaja of Kolhapur. None of the subjects are identified, however it shows high-ranking officials, possibly the Governor of Bombay. Kolhapur, situated on the banks of the river Panchaganga was the capital city of the former princely state of the same name in Maharashtra, south west India. In 1675 Kolhapur was conquered by the Maratha chief Shivaji and then ruled by the dynasty founded by his younger son. The British obtained political suzerainty of Kolhapur in 1844. 24.5 x 30.7 Centimetres. Photographer: Unknown.
