Photograph of the stone bull Nandi on Chamundi Hill near Mysore in Karnataka, from the Crofton Collection: Topographical and architectural views mostly in India, taken by an unknown photographer in the 1870s.This colossal sculpture of Nandi is situated along the road that ascendsthe Chamundi Hill that overlooks Mysore. Nandi, the bull sacred to Shiva, was carved out of a single boulder in 1659 and is represented seated and decorated with garlands and cerimonial bells. Photographer: Unknown.
