Resumo

Photograph of a valley in Kulu, taken by Samuel Bourne in the 1860s. During a residence of seven years, Bourne produced thousands of landscape and architectural views, but his fame and the success of his studio, rests primarily on the results of three arduous photographic expeditions to Kashmir and the Himalayas. In his search to capture the scale of the mountainous surroundings, at one point Bourne responds and says, "What a mighty upbearing of mountains! What an endless vista of gigantic ranges and valleys, untold and unknown! Peak, rose above peak, summit above summit, range above and beyond range, innumerable and boundless, until the mind refused to follow the eye in its attempt to comprehend the whole in one grand conception.". Photographer: Bourne, Samuel.
