ResumoThe etiology and pathogenesis of the cardiomyopathies are largely unclear. Cl assification principally on the basis of hemodynamic criteria into congestive, obstructive and restrictive forms does not table all aspects of a differing nosology. The so-called primary cardiomyopathies, especially provide by definition no aspect of a more precise description of the disease in respect to biochemical, morphological and immunological events, and therefore the borderline between primary and second ary disease is often unclear. Thus, for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, a cardiomyopathy should be further characterized clinically and by laboratory tests. We have been particularly interested recently in cardiomyopathies related to immunological findings. In addition we have tried to draw some correlations between quantitative immunoglobulins, antibody determinations by immunfluorescence techniques using in some cases myocardial biopsy specimens and the underlying myocardial disease of the clinically examined patients.
