Resumo

The present paper describes trilobite remains collected by E. Nunez in limestones exposed near Ponon Trehue, Sierra Pintada de San Rafael, Mendoza Province. The assemblage contains a new genus of Odontopleuridae (Elbaspis), represented by the single species E. pintadensis gen. et sp. nov., plus the new species Toernquistia chinchensis, Ampyx nunezi, and Flexicalymene (Reacalymene) frontalis. Undeterminable species of Monorakidae?, Trinucleidae, and Illaeninae are also present. In addition, the fauna contains remains of brachiopods, briozoa, ostracodes, corals, and crinoids. The assemblage enables the assignement of a Middle Ordovician (Llanvirnian) age to the limestones, which may be possibly extended into the Upper Ordovician (Caradocian ).
