Resumo

AirAsia has been transformed from a money-losing operation into a profitable, low-cost airline that is broadening horizons for a country where air travel was previously an unthinkable concept for thousands of its residents. This article relates how CEO Tony Fernandes obtained AirAsia in 2001 and has been able to reshape the company into a successful carrier, offering low fares, a 98% on-time record for flights, and maintaining a staff that is committed to high productivity and a strong work ethic. Even though AirAsia is remaining cost conscious by relying on second-hand aircraft and offering no- frills service to its customers, it is still thought to pose a threat to majors such as Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines.
