ResumoThe object of this article is to edit an unpublished commentary by the famous Salamanca theologian on S. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica , II, II (q. 1, a. 10), which is concerned with the authority of the Roman Pontiff (in particular, with his primacy and infallibility). This task is performed on the basis of the Academic Lectures given by Cano in the Faculty of Theology of Alcala in 1543. The lectures are recorded in the Codex B of San Cugat del Valles and in the Codex Vaticanus Lat. 4647. Both codices are transcribed, so far as regards the matter in question, and each text is provided with the appropriate apparatus of critical notes and theological sources. The text is preceded by an Introduction which presents both manuscript codices (description, characteristics etc.), as well as the structure and content of the material which they contain, and ends by alluding to a certain critical problem relating to the authority of the codices employed.
