ResumoThe overall objective of the COMANDOS project (Construction and Management of Distributed Office Systems) is to identify and construct an integrated platform for programming and operating large-scale multi-vendor distributed systems. The project is planned over two main phases carried out both under ESPRIT-1 and ESPRIT-2 programmes. The ESPRIT-1 COMANDOS project was a three-year project (started in March 1986) which was mainly dedicated to the exploratory prototyping of this platform. Based on the results drawn from this project, a further consolidation and development phase, the ESPRIT-2 COMANDOS project running over a four-year period, should result in pre-industrial products for a number of system environments. This paper outlines the main achievements of the ESPRIT-1 COMANDOS project, and describes the intended consolidation and development work to be carried out in the framework of ESPRIT-2.
