ResumoThe argumentative structure of Philo’s De Mutatione Nominum 252-263 exemplifies one of the most interesting and creative patterns of elaboration used in his commentary. A kind of pedagogical exercise related with the expansion of a χρεία, well known in the rhetorical circles since the first century B.C. and clearly elucidated by Theon of Alexandria and Hermogenes. The pattern is faithfully reproduced in his own way as if it were a vital part of his hermeneutical and persuasive code o f interpretation.
