ResumoThis is the first paper of a serie carried out to study the population dynamics of Anastrepha (Dip., Tephritidae) species in five counties of the Reconcavo Baiano, State of Bahia, Brazil. The collection was done by means of baited traps distributed in three Citrus orchards and two experimental stations with Citrus and several other tropical fruit trees, during a 36-month period. A total of 17,833 fruit flies was collected, being 99.25% of the genus Anastrepha (20 species) and 0.71% of Ceratitis capitata . Besides these genera of economic importance, only three (0.02%) specimens of Hexachaeta and three (0.02%) of Tomoplagia were collected. A pictorial key for the more common Anastrepha species in the region is presented.
