ResumoMembrane potential of rat mesentery mast cell was measured in relation to morphological changes of the cell under the effect of compound 48/80 and ATP in the Tyrode medium. Mean of the membrane potentials in resting state was -14.3mV ranging from -6 to -25mV. After the addition of these compounds, the degranulation of mast cell started before the occurrence of depolarization, even though degranulation continued after complete depolarization. This observation suggests that depolarization is not a causal phenomenon in the mechanism of degranulation.
