Resumo

This chapter reviews new investigations in the field of synthetic isoxazoles. Isoxazoles possess the properties of the aromatic system. The syntheses of isoxazole derivatives involving formation of the 1–5 and 2–3 bonds of the isoxazole ring, as well as formation of the 1–5 and 3–4 bonds of the ring are described in the chapter. The structure and physicochemical properties of isoxazole derivatives is also described. The reactions of isoxazole derivatives with the retention of the heterocyclic nucleus comprise electrophilic substitution reactions, nucleophillic substitution reactions, substitution in the side chain of isoxazoles, grignard synthesis, and condensation involving activated methyl groups of methyl isoxazoles. Isoxazole derivatives involve substances with analgesic and local anaesthetic activity. The action of oxidizing agents of isoxazoles and isoxazolines are discussed in the chapter. The extensive investigation of the biological activity of organic compounds reveals active compounds in the isoxazole series.
