Resumo

The writers discuss a portrait of Elisabeth von Thuringen by Sebastian Weygandt, from Goethe's collection, now in the Goethe-Nationalmuseum in Weimar, Germany. Elisabeth, an early 13th-century Thuringian countess, became a saint. The oil painting, which dates from 1826/27 and was for decades thought to have been executed by the Nazarene Johann Friedrich Overbeck, is based on part of a lost oil painting dating from no later than 1630.
