A large number of documents on file in Portuguese and Brazilian Institutes and Libraries, which deal with seventeenth and eighteenth century Brazilian literature, prove the existence of many sources which guide the forms of poetic production and the habits of intellectuals then. Using some of these documents, we intend to demonstrate the most evident elements recorded under these modalities.
