ResumoDuring the 25 years that the Windfall sour gas condensate pool in west-central Alberta has been cycled, many improvements have been made in equipment, design, and operating practices. The focus of these improvements was on facilitating and reducing maintenance, preventing hydrates, increasing the reliability of instrumentation, enhancing the accuracy of orifice metering of sour gas and liquids, and conducting all operations with a maximum of safety and minimum risk to the environment. The Windfall field operation is one component of the West Whitecourt area development owned by Amoco Petroleum Co. Ltd., Dome Petroleum Ltd., and Petro-Canada Inc. Each owner operates a different part of the overall development, with Petro-Canada being the operator of the Windfall field whose location is TP 59, 60, 61, R14W5M, R15, R16. Current practices have resulted from improvements made over the 25-year period of field facilities operation from April 1962 to April 1987. Cycling of the Windfall D-3A pool is still continuing, pending the availability of a high rate of demand for sales gas during the blowdown phase. An economic analysis at such time will determine the start of blowdown.
