Although blastomycosis is a rather uncommon disease, it is nevertheless a very important clinical entity when it does occur, since the systemic variety usually terminates fatally. Both the systemic and cutaneous forms of the infection can successfully mimic myriad other diseases frequently encountered in the practice of medicine.
